603 Repentant Boko Haram Fighters To Be Reintegrated Into The Society By July


A total of 603 repentant Boko Haram fighters are set to be reintegrated back into the society by July, 2020. The Boko Haram repentants having completed their Deradicalisation, Rehabilitation and Reintegration (DDR) programme, are set to be restored back into their various community in July. 

While disclosing this, the Spokesperson of the Nigeria Defence Headquarters, Major General John Enenche, during a media briefing on the operations of the Armed Forces of Nigeria on Thursday made the announcement. 

Major General John stated that the "Operation Safe Corridor" established in 2016, has admitted over 800 ex-Boko Haram fighters. 

Enenche disclosed that a particular ex-Boko Haram fighter who was successfully reintegrated and had learn barbing as a vocation had also empowered others and happily married with wife and kids. 

While emphasizing on the various stages of the programme, Enenche pointed "Deradicalisation" as the first stage, followed by medical screening which also include taking of DNA samples. Other rehabilitation programmes include; Drug Abuse Intervention, Psychotherapy, Psycho-spiritual counselling, Sports and Recreation, Art Therapy, and Introduction to Western Education. 

Meanwhile, the Nigeria military also said that it has successfully reintegrated a total number of 280 Boko Haram repentant, including 2 Chadians, back into the society.
