Kaduna Governor, El-Rufai Takes Bishop To Court For Saying He Will Never Be Nigeria's President

Nasir El-Rufai

The Kaduna state government under the leadership of Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has arraigned the Bishop of Zaria Diocese, Abiodun Ogunyemi, of the Anglican Communion, in court for saying that he will never become the president of Nigeria.

Ogunyemi had made the statement around November, 2019, over the demolition of churches in the crisis state.

He had said that the governor should stop embarrassing himself on the demolition of churches in the state.

He noted further that any attempt to demolish properties or shops specifically in Sabongari market is callous and would only incur the wrath of God.

"The governor should know that he will never be President of Nigeria. I speak prophetically as a servant of the living God," Bishop Ogunyemi said.

While arraigned before a Chief Magistrates' court in Kaduna on charges bordering criminal intimidation, injurious falsehood and criminal defamation, Ogunyemi pleaded not guilty to all the charges levelled against him as he was granted bail.

The case has been adjourned till October 28, 2020, for continuation.
