The Nigerian Army, on Wednesday, has buried the remains of Lance Corporal, Benjamin Collins, who was tortured to death by its three (3) other senior officers.
The deceased soldier was reportedly tortured to death at the Mogadishu Barracks in Abuja, 2017.
Buried with full military honours at the Guards Brigade Cemetery, along Kubwa Expressway, by soldiers from the Army Headquarters Garrison Battalion, present at the funeral were his mother, Mrs Kate Dioma; his uncle, Justice Daniel Isiagor of the Federal High Court; lawyer Johnson Oyewole; representatives of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, and other close sympathizers.
Legal practitioner Oyewole, who fought to ensure justice for the deceased soldier thanked the COAS and the Army Headquarters Garrison Battalion, for granting approval for the burial.
Meanwhile, a General Martial Court had in February sentenced the senior officers; Major Akeem Oseni, Major Ogbemudia Osawe, and Second Lieutenant Nuhu Dogary, to 10 years imprisonment for torturing Lance Corporal Collins to death.
They were found guilty of manslaughter as they were learnt to have moved the deceased from a guard-room at Mogadishu Barracks to a bush, where he was severally assaulted while still in handcuffs and leg chains.
Collins had died from the severe assault which occurred on February 23, 2017, as his body was deposited at the Asokoro General Hospital morgue.
The officers involved in the assault after the incident reported to their superiors that Collins, who was held for over two years for travelling to Lagos to see his sick aunt without an official permission, had escaped from custody.
