Following a verification exercise carried out by the Niger State Government on civil servants in the state, workers who fraudulently paid theirselves salaries above their Grade Level have been uncovered.
Why disclosing this, Niger state Head of Service, Salamatu Abubakar revealed some of the fraudulent practices which includes a fake commissioner of agriculture who has received salaries of the office for two years, and an office messenger receiving the salary of a high court judge.
Some of the civil servants were however sacked, while it was learnt that the Health Service Management Board had most culprits.
Other institutions and ministries affected includes, schools of nursing and health technology, ministries of health, Primary Health Care Development Agency, judiciary, education, and schools of midwifery.
The state's Commissioner of Agriculture, Haruna Dukku, while reacting to the development said that he would have been mistaken and found guilty to be the one earning double salaries if not for the timely verification exercise.
“Somebody has been collecting the salary of the commissioner for agriculture in the last two years.
“The person makes it to look as if I am collecting double salary. What will I say if at the end of my tenure, the EFCC comes knocking and this thing has not been discovered before then?,” He said. (Culled from Lindaikejisblogj)
