The unexpected has occurred after a 43-year-old man in India sliced open his pregnant wife's belly with the aim of confirming if the baby was a boy.
The man identified as Pannalal, was leant to have attacked his wife, Anita Devil, on Saturday night at their residence in UP's Budaun district.
The victim was reportedly discovered in her pool of blood.
Pannalal attacked and cut open his pregnant wife's belly to find out the baby's gender.
Luckily, the baby was unhurt but Anita's condition deteriorated due to severe internal damages and excessive bleeding.
She was immediately rushed and admitted to Safdarjung hospital with the help of police authorities.
Pannalal has however defended his act as he claimed it was not intentional, he admitted throwing sickle at her but had no idea it would injure her so severely.
“I have five daughters, one of my sons is dead. I know that children are the gift of God. Now whatever is to happen, will happen," Pannalal said.
While he has been arrested, further investigations has commenced as he will be duly prosecuted if found guilty within the law.
