Officers of the B Divison Police Station Awka, has rescued a day-old baby who was abandoned by the mother inside a gutter at the Abuja Estates behind NSCDC office in Awka, Anambra state.
The rescue mission took place around the early hours of Saturday, October 3, after a resident of the area alerted the police officers.
Confirming the report, Spokesperson of the state police Command, Haruna Mohammed, said that all efforts to trace the mother proved futile.
However, according to Haruna, the baby is in good condition and handed over to "Time to fort care specialist medical center Awka" for safekeeping.
He also added that officials of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare Children have been duly informed, as the baby will handed over to the Social Welfare Department for proper care.
Meanwhile, efforts are still ongoing to trace the baby's mother so as to also unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
