Man Sentenced To Prison Over Facebook Defamation Post Against Jigawa Governor


One Sabi’u Chamo, has been sentenced to imprisonment by a Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Dutse, Jigawa state, for the defamation of character against the state governor, Badaru Abubakar.

Chamo was arrested on Christmas eve, December 24, and detained before being charged to court for failure to substantiate the allegations he made on Facebook.

He had alleged that Governor Badaru of Jigawa state had duped many aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by collecting money from them in exchange for party tickets.

After the first information was read to Chamo during trial, he pleaded guilty to the charge as he was sentenced to 6-months imprisonment.

He was however granted options of payment of N20,000 fine and twenty strokes of cane to serve as deterrent to others.
