Brutal violation of human rights by SARS officials needs to be stopped _ Amnesty International

Amnesty International has called for the end of the brutal violation of human rights by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). It also accused the Government of deliberately acting lackadaisical to prosecute lawlessness officers from the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, despite the  anti-torture legislation passed in 2017. 


Continuous evidence have shown SARS officers continual use of torture, to punish and retrieve information from suspects.

Meanwhile, the Amnesty international with its latest report has documented record's of at least 82 scenarios of torture, ill treatment, and extra-judicial executions by SARS between January 2017 and May, 2020.


"The Nigerian ruling authorities fails to bring an end to this gross human rights violations by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad. Nigerians are furious with the unacceptable human rights violations perpetrated by SARS officials with impunity,” said Osai Ojigho, Director of Amnesty International Nigeria.


Amnesty International research conducted have shown disturbing pattern of abuse of Nigerians by this brutal officers.
