Obaseki Wins Edo PDP Governorship Primaries... (PHOTOS)

Incumbent Governor of Edo state, Godwin Obaseki, has won the Edo governorship primaries under the platform of the People's Democratic Party (PDP). Obaseki who joined the PDP on Friday, June 19, 2020, after his defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) had picked up his PDP membership card at the PDP secretariat in Benin City, Edo state.

While addressing officials, the governor said he automatically becomes the PDP leader in the state following his defection from the APC. He also promised his utmost commitment in providing quality leadership, adding his readiness to lead the state and the party to victory in the forthcoming governorship election.

“The energy i see in the new party (PDP) is the kind of energy i require to take Edo to the next required," He said. 

Obaseki's victory is coming just Three days after joining the PDP, an arc rival of Obaseki also chasing the PDP ticket, Engr. Gideon Ikhine, had earlier stepped down for Obaseki in the Edo Governorship primaries. 

Obaseki had defected from the All Progressive Congress (APC), when the party disqualified him from contesting in the primaries before joining the opposition party, PDP. 

The battle is now between the main contenders for the September 19, 2020 Edo governorship election in persons of Pastor Ize Iyamu of the APC (ruling party), and Godwin Obaseki (PDP), who just defected from the APC where he won the 2016 Edo Governorship election which made him the incumbent governor.
