COVID-19: Abia State Governor Tests Positive


Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, has reportedly tested positive for coronavirus. 

While disclosing this today (Monday), Abia state Commissioner for Information, John Kalu, stated that the Governor had since gone into isolation as required by the Nigeria Center for Disease Control, (NCDC), protocols. 

He revealed that the Governor had on 30th of May, 2020, volunteered his sample for COVID-19 test while the result which came out on the 2nd of June returned negative. 

However, on the 4th of June, 2020, the governor sent another sample to the NCDC for further confirmation which turned out positive. 

According to Kalu, the Governor has directed his Deputy "Ude Chukwu" to assume his roles pending the time of his recovery. Efforts are also on the run by competent team of medical practitioners to bring him back to normal health. 

Meanwhile, The Governor has directed the State Executive Councils and Inter-ministerial commitee on COVID-19 to also go for their COVID-19 tests. 

According to NCDC, Abia state has recorded only 83 cases of coronavirus with 7 Recoveries and nil death yet.
